An online report about Orlando City Designated Player Kaka seems to leak details about the Lions’ preseason plans for friendlies in Brazil. We reported on those rumors a while back, but now things are heating up.
Club owner Flávio Augusto da Silva addressed the rumor on his Facebook page today, saying (via Bing Translator):
Orlando City was invited to participate in a tournament in Manaus, where Flamengo and the SPFC already confirmed their presence. However, we have yet to receive tournament organization confirmation of our opponents. As soon as we know who will make the games I will be happy to disseminate correct information.
It’s important to note that da Silva says the club has yet to receive confirmation of opponents from the tournament organizers, but he does not refute the report that Orlando City will be playing in Brazil.
The globalpost report talks about Kaka making his debut with the Lions in Manaus on Jan. 28 against Brazilian league Flamengo and following that with a match Feb. 6 at Sao Paulo, presumably against the club he now plays for on loan.
As this story heats up and more details start to leak, it seems just a matter of time before all of Orlando City’s preseason plans are known. We already know the club won’t be part of the 2015 Pro Soccer Classic, because Andrew already confirmed that tournament has been canceled.
We’ll continue to follow this story as it develops.
