Lions Will Pick Seventh in Dispersal Draft

Orlando City will have the seventh pick in next week’s MLS Dispersal Draft for Chivas USA players. MLS held a drawing today at league headquarters to decide how to reallocate the players on the disbanding Los Angeles franchise. The Dispersal Draft will be held via conference call on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.

To decide the order, envelopes were assigned for each team, with 2014 non-playoff teams and the two expansion clubs for 2015 each receiving a second envelope in the drawing. Yet that plan backfired when four of the top five teams selected were 2014 playoff teams, led by FC Dallas with the first overall pick.

Following Dallas, fellow expansion club New York City FC was drawn, followed by Sporting Kansas City, D.C. United, New England Revolution, Montreal Impact and Orlando City. Of the teams ahead of the Lions, only NYCFC and Montreal Impact did not appear in the 2014 MLS Playoffs. Montreal finished with the league’s worst record this season.

Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake round out the top 10. The draft picks are final and cannot be traded between clubs.

Here is the complete draft order:

Andrew did a nice breakdown of some of the players that may draw Orlando City’s interest in the dispersal draft.

Here’s a look at the full roster. Keep in mind that Erick “Cubo” Torres will not be available in this draft.

Who would you like to see suiting up for Heath’s purple-clad warriors in 2015?

  1. Well, there are at least 7 players on Chivas who could contribute to most teams in the league, so we should get a player who sees a fair amount of minutes. I still think Sturgis would be a good pick up. Florida grown, versatile, lots of experience, but still young enough to contribute for years to come.
